A Comment/Review on Me-chan’s “Olfactory”
It’s been a while since I commented on a Me-chan story around here so time to change that. Today’s piece is entitled Olfactory. Synopsis below:
The most familiar scents can bring the strongest of recollections.
The first thing you need to know is this is an induction-like story, not exactly a hypnotic trance but almost. The second is this is a sequel to another similar piece, entitled Sensitivity. The third is that I have a bit of personal history with this particular tale. When I met Me-chan a couple of years back at the old Inraptured website, and we started talking about stories and whatnot, Sensitivity was the first piece of his I read. While my original comments on it were lost to time, I did comment on it on the Garden of MC back in August 2016. What I wrote about at the time was:
Another one I was already familiar with. If memory serves me right, it was actually the first piece of his he gave me to read. Even though it’s not my favorite when it comes to idea development, I do enjoy it, especially the synesthetic quality of it all. The fact that the writing is sharp as always is also a huge bonus as it helps with the necessary engagement towards what’s going on. If the author hadn’t already confessed being a trance-loving person around here, I believe you would easily see it in the way things are brought forth. Another enjoyable romp. Green is definitely a nice color.
Since it’s been ages since this remark and I had pretty much forgotten what the tale is all about, I re-read it today, prior to Olfactory and discovered my overall feelings stand. It’s quite an elegant piece that flows pretty well. The sequel had big shoes to fill and did it with aplomb.
While the first tale focuses mostly on tactile sensations as a whole as a vehicle for inducing an altered state of mind – hot wax, an ice cube, etc – , Olfactory is all about using familiar scents to trigger memories and even play with them, including some masturbation triggers and the promise of sweet release emanating from hypnotic surrender. Just like the original, this is a carefully crafted ride. It respects the first piece’s history and its strengths, and capitalizes on them to create another riveting dream-like euphoria from reading it. While I personally have an impaired sense of smell that would make it very difficult to me to live something like this if it were happening to me, I still enjoyed the pictures it evokes. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would probably give it an 11, because of it. It’s that good.
If sexy 2nd person narrations that pull you deep into the idea of losing yourself to the control of a hypnotic woman is something you’re into, you should check these out right about… now.
Thank you for reading.
