A Comment/Review on Society Slave’s “At River’s Edge”
It’s Sunday again and though I’ve been pretty busy all day once again writing and editing new stuff, I took some time to read yet another EMCSA piece. The chosen this time was Society Slave’s At River’s Edge. The synopsis goes as follows:
A man unexpectedly finds comfort, solace, and surrender at the river’s edge.
The first thing I noticed about this piece was the title. The fact that it’s At River’s Edge and not At the River’s Edge (despite what it says in the description), made me think if River wouldn’t turn out to be a person. As it turns out, I was half-right as this piece is dedicated to the Goddess River Nixie. While I’m not familiar with her or her creations in general, I do know what’s like to be inspired by a seductive woman (Spell… B-O-U-N-D‘s existence is a testament to that) so I wasn’t shocked by the revelation.
As for the story, I enjoyed it quite a bit. It’s a bit on the mellow side and there’s no actual sex in it, but the feelings of control are quite evident. Eric – the main character – lives quite a stressful life and things with his love, Amanda, suffer because of it. They’re constantly arguing not because they’re really mad at one another but merely due to the fact that’s the only way both can cope with the frailties and insecurities of life. We’ve all probably been there at some point, letting our frustrations explode simply to vent. Picking up the pieces afterward is always hard though.
Needing a moment to relax, Eric goes to wander around his house and stumbles upon a river, one he had never seen before, as strange as that may be. The water calls to him and he embraces the joyous feeling of surrender only to be brought back to reality by the time the piece ends. The river’s voice will always remain though.
The metaphors of his desire to submit are quite evocative and one can feel his urge to become something else by giving in. I’ve been there so, fiction or not, it hits close to home at points. There’s a hint of sadness when the fantasy is broken but life goes on.
For a first-timer at the EMCSA, Society Slave paints a very intriguing little tale here. If you enjoy your femdom with a touch of mystic and divine, you’ll like this one. If all you’re looking for is unbridled sex, you should probably seek out another piece.
Thank you for reading.
