Better You
Tim blinked and brushed his sweaty hands against his receding scalp, normal thought processes on the verge of collapse. He had long suspected his wife was having an affair and that it was only a matter of time until all hell broke loose. What he didn’t expect was for the guy look exactly like him.
The two of them sat side by side in the living-room, with Marie standing in her five-inch favorite stilettos with a disapproving look on her face. He was too shocked to yell, almost too confused to even ask what was going on. Lips parched, he mumbled:
“What the…? I don’t get it.”
“I’m not surprised…” She replied, her voice more condescending than upset. “That’s always been your problem. You never ‘get’ anything. He, on the other hand…”
“What is he?” Tim gulped, eyeing his doppelganger. It was like looking at a mirror but ten times worse for the reflection was staring back with jealous, possessive eyes.
“Your clone. Working at a major Genetics lab has its advantages. It’s not an ordinary one though. Timmy here is a replica of everything you should be with none of the traits that make me mad.”
“Timmy? You gave him my pet name?”
“A pet name you’ve always hated, let’s be honest. Tim, you’re a good man but you never knew how to treat me properly. You stopped pampering me right after we got married, and nowadays you’re always busy with your books and the dumb fantasies contained within. You don’t respect me and you sure as hell don’t obey me when I tell you to do something which is unacceptable, and you know it. Trying to change your mind would be too damn hard but when you have a blank slate to work with, things become easy. Timmy is submissive. Timmy is obedient. Timmy is the better you, programmed the way I want it. I’m not having an ‘affair’ with him. He’s my brainwashed slave.”
“And I’m perfect,” Timmy said. “Mistress, I don’t like him. Can we get rid of him now, please?”
“Get rid of me?” Tim vociferated, outrage showing on the pulsating veins on his arms and forehead. “Why, you freak!”
“Don’t call me that!” Timmy growled.
“Boys, calm down. NOW! Timmy, no we’re not getting rid of him. In the event you have an untimely accident or something, I’ll need his DNA to recreate you anew and fresh samples are better than frozen ones. Nothing personal, Tim, but now that you discovered the truth, I need to lock you up.”
Tim jumped at his sadistic wife, her pet getting in the way.
“After all these years, that’s all I am to you? A DNA provider?”
Marie smirked. “I’m afraid so. Had you been more attentive from the start, you could have been so much more but there will always be another you. Timmy, restrain him, throw him in the basement and then come lick my feet.”
“As you wish, Mistress,” the clone grinned, happy to oblige. His right fist cracked the air, red splattered on the couch. He would purge all imperfections, only bliss would remain.
