Bonus Story – Breaking the Mold

Daniel wiped the dirt off his black varnished shoes and then checked his breath before popping a mint. He needed to look presentable for what was one of the most important moments in his adult life. In a little over thirty-three years and four months of existence, he couldn’t say he had had many memorable experiences to tell his unborn children. He always played things by the book and the book was boring. All the paragraphs read the same and any deviation from the norm was corrected and squashed to fit the mold. He couldn’t say things were boring, but they weren’t challenging either, most of it by choice. The time had come to take a different route.

He was standing outside a large metal door painted in black and bright red in what would used to be the entrance to an old subway station back in the 80s. After the line was decommissioned and the space abandoned in favor of a flashier and more central location, the grounds had been sold to the private sector and passed from hand to hand until reaching the one that would make the best use of them yet.

Her name was Anastasia Cortez, but she was known by her artistic dominant alias, Goddess Anya. Born in Vladivostok to an Ambassador’s only daughter and a Peruvian businessman, she was spoiled from the very first day she came into this world and grew to love living in luxury and telling others what to do.
