When the bite happened, Roland ignored it. Insects were after his fair skin all the time.
Then, the changes happened: his eyes darkened, and he began seeing the image of a beautiful woman calling out to him.
The Hive Queen took over when he fell asleep, and drone 1912005 was born. It’s time to serve.
How this story came to be
One of the pieces of my One Year of Flash Fiction Challenge test run involved a bite suggestion, i.e. making people feel pain as if they had been bitten by a bug. There are no real insects in that tale, but if they were, who knows what could have happened.
Well, in this tale, there’s a bug and a Queen Bee-like figure that enslaves people via their minions. I had this idea come to mind after discussing with someone on DeviantArt about the possibility of writing a short story involving a bug whose bite turns people obedient. Do you like the concept or not?
