Fear
The ancient mirror shattered into a million pieces.
“Fuck!” Jonathan screamed.
“Why so upset? Don’t tell me you suffer from paraskevidekatriaphobia!” Clark sniggered.
“Para… what?”
“Fear of Friday the Thirteenth.”
“No. Only of the mind-snatching she-devil that was trapped inside it. Run!”
A column of red smoke enveloped the house.
“My lucky day…” it hissed.
The inspiration is obvious, isn’t it? It’s Friday the 13th! Did you honestly think I was going to let the date slide? Of course not! However, the primary reason for this piece was because I was looking for a way to add paraskevidekatriaphobia to a story.
Yeah, that’s really a thing. It stems from the combination of the following Ancient Greek words: Παρασκευή (Paraskevi), meaning ‘Friday’; δεκατρείς (dekatreís), meaning ‘thirteen’; and φόβος (phóbos), meaning ‘fear’. Pretty neat, huh?
There are phobias for everything, you know? I only recently came to know this one and thought to myself: “yeah, this really needs to be a part of a story, somehow. The horror vibes felt natural given the superstitions associated with the date and all. If you want to have your mind taken away from you for good, go smash a mirror the moment you finish reading this.
Eyes Open, Mind Closed
“… ninety-eight, ninety-nine, one hundred!” Mark said. “Here I come.”
“Good luck finding me…” Tracy declared, standing next to him.
Mark opened his eyes and stared at the empty room for a few seconds. Then he scoured the house from top to bottom. Nothing.
“Honey, where are you hiding?” He blinked.
“Inside your mind…” She whispered.
I had a strange dream last night. I dreamt I was sitting in my bed listening to a soothing female voice but I couldn’t tell where it was coming from even though it was close. This went on for a while and it ended when I heard her say: “You may wake up now”. I blinked and saw her sitting on my bed before waking up for good.
Yeah, in the dream I was entranced and my perception was shifted in such a way that I couldn’t see her. She was invisible to my eyes. Don’t you think that’s hot?
This piece was obviously inspired by it. The hide-and-seek game was just to give a different flavor but the concept of perception shift is the same. I hope you had fun.
The Movie Can Wait
Peter jumped off the sofa.
“Did you see that?”
“I sure did,” Mara nodded.
“How is this stunt real?”
“I heard he was hypnotized on set right before shooting.”
“Man, that’s a powerful hypnotist then.”
“I sure am…” she smiled. “Now imagine when I go kinky.”
“I think the movie can wait…” he drooled.
“Agreed.”
Unsure if I ever told you this or not (I think so), but one of the things I enjoy is watching Making of… movies and stuff. I particularly like learning how certain special effects are brought to life and the skills necessary to pull off some of the impressive stunts we often see on the big screen. Kudos to the actors who choose to do them themselves instead of relying on human replacements or digital counterparts. It takes balls.
This piece was inspired by this fascination of mine. I repeat: it takes balls… or perhaps a good hypnosis session just before the shooting of the scene takes place.
Now, do as Peter did and imagine what Mara could do to his/your mind if she were feeling kinky. Are you in the zone yet? Are your thoughts already dripping with mindless anticipation of being used and abused for her pleasure, doing everything she wants until your brain explodes in ecstasy? If you didn’t see this before in your mind’s eye, you’re probably seeing it now and I bet you’re horny so…
The movie can wait but not her commands.
Outstanding
Two witches sat in a kitchen.
“How’s your new boyfriend?” The first one asked.
“Outstanding! Best one ever!” The second one replied.
“That’s good to know. By the way, where is he?”
“Out, standing.”
“Oh dear, you used your magic to turn him into a scarecrow, didn’t you?”
“Yep, and my garden never looked better.”
How many times have I used puns and wordplay to come up with one of these, huh? I don’t know, and I bet you don’t either but it’s still fun.
Do you want to stand for her? I can’t because it’s raining cats and dogs outside and I don’t really have a garden but if you’re not doing anything…
