Flash Fiction Friday 2023 – Week 10
Flash Fiction Friday continues in 2023. New pieces appear every Friday on my Patreon throughout the year. The minimum pledge to read them before anyone else is $3 per month. and the number of pieces available is tied to the monthly pledge total so the more you support my efforts, the more you’ll get to read. Find out what they’re all about and check out some excerpts from this week’s update in this post.
Excerpts
Emily
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful young woman with curly blonde hair, deep green eyes, and the most beautiful of smiles that ever graced the face of the Earth. Unfortunately for her, she was kidnapped outside a movie theater and taken to a remote location far away from her hometown. She had no idea where or why. She was locked in what appeared to be a soundproof basement with reflective metal panels along the walls, a chair, and a curved TV screen that occasionally flashed random messages, the last of which was,
“Wake up, Emily. It’s time.”
Emily shook her petite head and yawned. Her muscles were sore and her eyes felt heavy. How long had she been out? Her body was telling her one day at least yet her brain believed in a week or more. She raised her chin to the screen and read,
“It’s time to go, Emily.”
“Huh? Go where?” she asked.

Heritage
Judy sat on the sofa of her mother’s house, unsure of what to say. When she had asked to see her on the day of her twenty-first birthday by saying she had an important secret to share, the last thing she expected to hear was that she was…
“… a demon?” the young woman asked.
“Half-demon, to be precise,” Catherine replied. “On your father’s side, not mine though.”
“You’re pulling my leg, right?”
“I wish I was, dear, but sadly it’s true. Not my proudest moment, that’s for sure.”
“So my father wasn’t a drunk trucker you met at a bar?”
“Well, we were both pretty wasted when you were conceived, but no. Unless you consider taking souls to Hell a trucking job.”
“Mom, that’s not funny!”
“I’m not joking, dear. Surely, you’ve felt you were different from the other kids while growing up. Having demon blood running through your veins does that.”

Not This Time
Gregory stopped running and leaned against the derelict building wall to catch his breath. Immediately, Sandra admonished him.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing? The horde will be here any second now and I’m not interested in being torn to shreds. Come on!”
“I can’t,” Gregory sighed. “Not this time, sorry.”
“What do you mean you can’t? Let’s… Oh!” she reached for his right arm and gasped when she saw the shredded sleeve. “Please tell me you…”
“I’m sorry, honey, but they got me.”
“How? When?” his girlfriend asked, tears building in her gorgeous amber eyes.
“I got scratched while we were going through the sewers and I can already feel the virus spreading, so I guess this is it for me. Don’t blame yourself, okay? It wasn’t your fault.”
“What the…? Fuck, of course, it was my fault. If I hadn’t insisted on taking that goddamned shortcut, you wouldn’t have… Oh, God! What have I done?” The proud warrior burst into tears as the sounds of the deranged mass of infected grew closer and closer.

Nothing is More Perfect
It had been ages since the last time Malcolm went on a date with a woman. Not that he didn’t want to, but his past experiences had been so painful he decided to protect himself by staying out of the game for a while. The only person fighting to get him out of the self-inflicted stupor he was in was his best friend Terence who approached him with a question,
“Have you tried the new DommU app yet?”
“Never heard of it. What is it?”
“You’re looking for a woman who likes to take charge, right? Well, this is the way to do it. Download it to your phone, set up an account, and have fun exploring thousands of profiles of kinky women looking for a bit of fun. Try it and I promise you won’t regret it.”
“You sound like an infomercial, dude,” Malcolm chuckled. “How much is this app paying you to advertise for them?”
