Always Happy

It was a little past 10 am on a Summer Saturday morning and the warm sun rays filtered through delicate sheer curtains before falling into shadow at the foot of the large, four-poster bed. Lucy sat propped up against a mountain of plush pillows like a queen on a comfortable throne. Her legs were slightly apart, revealing the smooth, dark skin of her thighs, and the hem of the white, lace dress, which brushed the top of her knees.
The dress itself was a spectacle to behold, with thin straps that crisscrossed over her shoulders, leaving her arms and back bare. The bodice was tight, accentuating her full, firm breasts, while the skirt flared out, giving her a playful, flirtatious look.
Her eyes were half-lidded with desire as she stared at the man who stood before her. His name was Hank, they had been dating for a little over six months, and he was fuming on the inside and outside after discovering she had cheated on him. An individual of few words, he stood at six feet four and had quite an athletic body for someone who spent ten hours a day hunched at a desk going through sales reports. While he often shied away from confrontations, it was obvious he was ready for violence that day.

Release

As Kevin turned the key in the lock and entered his apartment downtown, he was met with a wave of warmth and comfort that soothed his weary bones. The soft glow of the lamp on the side table illuminated a cozy living room, casting a gentle light over the familiar surroundings. His wife Ruth sat on the leather sofa, her legs folded beneath her as she leafed through a glossy fashion magazine and frowned every time she saw a picture that was too weird to be true. The air was filled with the faint scent of a lavender candle burning on the coffee table, mixed with the aroma of a hearty stew simmering on the stove.
Kevin let out a tired sigh as he kicked off his shoes, the long day at work weighing on his shoulders. He crossed the room to where Ruth sat, her eyes flicking up from the pages of her magazine to meet his gaze with an inviting smile.
“Hey there,” she said, setting aside her reading and patting the cushion beside her. “Rough day?”
Kevin kissed her forehead and sank down onto the sofa beside her, saying,
“You have no idea. I swear Anson keeps making up shit on the fly just to see me struggle. God, I hate that guy!”

Yes, Samantha!

Janet’s eyes were fixed on the shiny pendulum swinging back and forth in front of her. The room seemed to fade away as she focused all her attention on the mesmerizing movement. She had already forgotten there were other people sitting at the table with them and she was beginning to forget her name, too.
It had started as a dare, a silly game over a bottle of wine, and a reluctance to tell the truth. Embarrassing secrets always ruined the fun out of things, and this was something she could control. Hypnosis only worked on weak-willed people, not someone like her. Or so she thought.
Samantha’s voice, soft and soothing, filled the space around Janet, guiding the junior executive into a trance-like state. Each swing of the pendulum pulled at the dazed woman’s consciousness, drawing it further into its simple yet enchanting dance.
“You can’t look away. You don’t want to look away…” Samantha purred, her face veiled in shadow. “There’s only the pendulum and my voice… only the pendulum and my voice…”
