Beyond the mystical doorway, stood a woman in white with emerald eyes and the voice of a siren. He stared and kneeled
No more moonlighting for him. Being her mindless obedient slave was a full-time job.
How this story came to be
I recently started playing Moonlighter. I bought it heavily discounted last Christmas. For those not familiar with it, it’s an adventure game that revolves around dungeon crawling, and then selling the items found in the dungeons in a self-owned shop to generate profit to buy better weapons, and expand both the shop and its commodities as well as the city we’re living in. Going through the dungeons is standard exploring-and-dispatching-foes fare. The selling mechanism of the items gathered involves paying attention to what the customers want and adjusting prices accordingly to maximize profit. You can add special items to the shop to increase the tipping percentage, protect rare drops from thieves, etc. The game is called Moonlighter because you’re supposed to man the shop during the day and go exploring at night although you can go to the dungeons in broad daylight if you wish. There’s more to it but I’m not going to explain all the mechanics here. You can look at a trailer of the game below if you wish.
Anyway, it has a retro charming feel to it and since the dungeons are relatively small despite the randomization aspects involved, one can have a ten-minute session and accomplish something. I’ll continue going through it in short bursts until I reach the end, whenever that may be.
This piece borrows from through the mention of the main character’s name, the fact that you can indeed find special amulets in the dungeons, and the mention of portals which are also a main mechanic. I’m pretty sure there are no mystical enslaving goddesses anywhere in it, but this is just inspired by the feel of it, it’s not the game itself.
I hope you had fun. Until tomorrow.
