Famished
Blue light, cold light, enthralling light.
It pulls, it grabs, it transforms.
You want it, she wants you, the sky will claim both.
And then, you’ll see her, the truth unfolding…
Her tentacles will envelop you.
Her fangs will shred your skin.
Your thoughts will glow anew.
Rise, drone, continue the hunt. She’s still hungry.
I recently watched Skyline for the first time. Yes, Skyline, the 2010 sci-fi movie starring Eric Balfour that got somewhat famous a few years back.
The last scene is kind of cool but the movie as a whole? Not so much. It does have a few interesting ideas though some of which made it into this piece, hence the inspiration.
The first is the blue light. In the movie, aliens use a blue light to take hold of humans before beaming them to their ships. The light is almost irresistible. It’s never really explained how it does what it does but I still like the concept. Green is my favorite color but I like blue as well and it’s used to great effect in a few sequences.
The other aspect is that it’s shown that some of the alien creatures are bio-mechanical in nature and they harvest human brains to create more aliens. This conversion paradigm isn’t new as it’s quite the cliché in the genre as well as in horror in general but I still like it.
So yeah, I used the premise for my very own take on a bit of transformative sci-fi with the central figure being an all-powerful female, a Queen that controls all drones. Again, not original but the whole ensemble is seeing it’s my own interpretation of these concepts.
It’s certainly a bit different than the pieces I write in this challenge, but I’m focusing more on the mind control aspect on this one. The “woman” may be monstrous in nature but she’s still in charge, is she not? Now, run along, lest she turns you into a drone as well.

“Of what I’ll do to keep you near.”
“What will you do?”
“Anything!”
“Including going deep for me?”
“I already am…”

“Still afraid?”
“Fuck it!”
