No Good Deed…
“You saved me!” Martha said.
“It was nothing,” Glenn helped her get up.
“Nothing? That car was going to hit me! I could have died.”
“But you didn’t. Be well. I need to go.”
“Wait! I must thank you properly.”
“How?”
Her eyes started glowing and Glenn’s mind went blank. No good deed goes unpunished.
How this story came to be
You’re familiar with the expression no good deed goes unpunished, right? That ironic way of saying that good-doers usually pay a hefty price for doing the right thing. This piece was inspired by it. Saving a life is a good thing but, in this particular fantasy, it may very well be his doom.
