Hypno-Sudoku

Trevor was a Sudoku master, no puzzle could stomp him.
“What about Hypno-Sudoku?” Clarissa asked.
“What’s that?”
“A variant I designed. Same rules, one caveat. For every number you fill in, you’ll feel compelled to drop into trance. Can you resist?”
“Obviously!”
Trevor got one down, two, three…
He never made it to the fourth.

Do you like Sudoku? I do. I’m not exactly a Master, but I consider myself pretty good at it, nonetheless. A few months ago, I was offered a mammoth book filled with devious brainteasers which I still haven’t finished for lack of time though I solve a couple every now and then.

Today, I was reminded of it when I arrived home and so decided to write a piece featuring this famous numbers puzzle. I never really dabbled into the world of Sudoku variants, so I created my own.

What do you make of it? Would this be something you’d be willing to try out or not?

New Build

Jack was not impressed with Cammie’s Lego spiral.
“Boring…”
“Hardly,” she replied. “If you look at it long enough, it moves on its own.”
“Right…”
“Try it.”
Jack complied, the multicolored pieces swirling in his mind. One by one, they came undone, and so did his thoughts.
“Time to build you anew, slave,” Cammie concluded.

Yesterday, I told you of my love for Sudoku, but I had a thing for Lego bricks too a long time ago, too. I loved to build stuff outside the norm and come up with the craziest concepts ever. I never had a large collection but it was big enough for my experiments. One day, I fell out of it and I’ve never worked with them again. I’m pretty sure I still have the pieces in the attic though.

Anyway, today I thought of them, and this impromptu came to mind. What do you think of this new build?

Movie Night

Beliefs Can Be Wrong

The haunting soundtrack played over the movie credits.
“That was almost hypnotic, but you know I can’t be entranced,” Gina said.
“Beliefs can be wrong…” Natalie replied.
“Not mine.”
“Where do you think you are?”
“In your living room, duh!”
The correct answer was a cage in her basement, but Gina didn’t need to know that.

Seeing Mondays are always an off-day for me, I thought of watching a movie while I was having lunch but then decided against it because I couldn’t find anything I really wanted to see, today. After my meal, I played two or three Rocket League rounds (I’m still an average player even after so many years) and then got into full creative mode to get some ideas out of my head. This was one of them and I’ve already shared a few others with patrons of the site, today.

Simple stuff, but effective, I think. Perception really is a funny thing.

Broken Forever

Cammie stared at the shattered statuette in her office. The gypsy woman’s suggestion had been clear: if the relic ever broke, her mind would be hers forever.
Peering beyond the door’s threshold, Cammie caught a glimpse of the old hag approaching, and sank to her knees.
“Good job, slave,” she smirked, deep inside her mind.

So… something broke in the house, today. It was an old porcelain doll that fell out of a shelf and almost hit me in the process. It happened right after dinner as I was looking for a book. The dogs freaked out and, for a moment, so did I.  No real harm was done in the end but it did give me an idea for this one.

And no, I’m pretty sure that doll wasn’t cursed… or am I? Hmm…
