She Will Have You Now
One creepy smile, two creepy smiles, three creepy smiles… They were everywhere and the number kept growing.
“Fuck!” Matthew bit his nails, trying to remain calm. “Leave me alone! I don’t want this.”
“But she does,” the grinning thralls said in unison. “Mistress will have you now.”
The circle began closing, his sanity fading away…
How this story came to be
On November 18th, 2023, I wrote an entry for this challenge entitled Deranged Smiles which was inspired by the movie Smile, obviously. A year later, I watched the sequel, and so it made sense for me to write a sequel to this one as well. I should have written it yesterday but I only had the idea for it today.
SPOILER WARNING
So… Smile 2 is fucked up, just like the original. It’s gorier, but it’s also trippier in the way it plays with perception, madness, and whatnot. It goes places with the hallucinations and how it makes you question what’s real and what’s not, while also shedding light on the problems of fame and how it affects a person’s mental health. It grossed me out at parts but there was one particular sequence which was absolutely fabulous, namely the “dancers” coming for Skye Riley, our tormented protagonist. God, the way that was shot and interpreted is terrifying but so impressive. Those two or three minutes alone are worth the rest of the movie for me. If you have the stomach for some genuinely gory visuals and mindfucks galore, go watch it.
Anyway, in my version there are no demons or metaphysical entities, but a Mistress who controls her subjects one smile at a time, and she’s at it again. If there’s ever a Smile 3 and I’m still writing these every day, may be I’ll write another piece about her then.
I hope you had fun. Until tomorrow.
