Silence Filled His Mind
“Sleep… SLEEP!” Marjorie commanded. “You will not wake up until I tell you to. Ignore all sounds from the outside world. You must obey me. Go deeper for me.”
Vince slumped in his chair, entranced. Silence filled his mind.
He didn’t hear the fire alarm or her agonizing screams when the flames torched the bedroom.
How this story came to be
There was a fire last night two blocks away from my home. I don’t know what caused it but the situation was resolved before it spread to other houses. One thing I do know is that the owner of the house was fast asleep when it started and only woke up when his dog jumped on the bed.
Partially inspired by these events, I thought: what if someone was so deep they couldn’t notice a disaster all around them? Well, now you know what happens.
