How this story came to be
Much like this week’s Patreon story, this piece was also inspired by the Evil Dead franchise. If you’re wondering why, allow me to tell you all about my story with the series.
My first contact with it was when I watched Evil Dead II many years ago. I remember thinking it was downright disgusting but also hilarious. A few years later, I saw Army of Darkness and was laughing the whole time at how ridiculous it was. It wasn’t until I moved to the house I’m currently living at that I saw the original movie right around Halloween. At the time, I had no idea the first movie was more horror than comedy and was pretty disgusted by it.
When Ash Vs. Evil Dead came along, I watched the first two seasons, got slightly bored with it by the end of the second installment, and then took me a while to finally finish it. It’s a fun show that can be genuinely gruesome and scary sometimes. Overall, I like it a lot.
And now, we come to the more recent movies. The 2013 version is downright nasty and the only cut I saw was the unrated version. Not much of a fan of that particular installment but it has its moments. As for Evil Dead Rise, I saw it for the first time last week and man, I wasn’t ready for that. It’s one of the most disturbing and gnarly things I’ve ever seen. I don’t intend to repeat the experience but Alyssa Sutherland was one hell of a terrifying Deadite so props to her for her acting.
Anyway, I much prefer Evil Dead when it’s more lighthearted than full-blown horror, but since the Patreon story leans more on the horror side of things, I wanted to do something for today’s challenge entry and this is what came to me. This is not the Necronomicon but rather the Hornynomicon. Would you read from it?
